Aussie batters to have Mr Cricket in their corner

Australia's batters will have Mike Hussey in their corner after the former all-format expert agreed to a consultancy role that includes next year's Ashes and cricket's Olympics return.

Hussey recently knocked back interest from England and will instead join the Australian set-up ahead of this month's T20 series against their arch-rivals later this month.

It comes after Australia's final-day capitulation with the bat in the series-deciding Cape Town Test last week triggered heavy criticism of the side's top order.

As well as working closely with the team during next year's Ashes tour, Hussey will be part of the side's 50-over World Cup campaign next year and also act as an advisor for the 2028 LA Games - the sport's first appearance since 1900 - and next T20 World Cup cycle.

“I am extremely excited about being a part of the team in a more formal and meaningful role in the coming years," Hussey said.

“This team has achieved so much in recent times, to which I hope I can add value to the coaching and playing groups ahead of what will be an exciting and challenging period.”

Hussey averaged over 51 in Tests, 48 in 50-over cricket and 38 in T20 cricket, at a strike rate of 136.29, in more than 300 games for his country and has since had short-form coaching success in India and England.
