Tom Green has helped Australia cap a medal-laden week at the canoe sprint world championships in Poland, winning the men's K1 500m final.
Green won gold in the K2 1000m at the Tokyo Olympics then bronze in the K2 500m at Paris 2024.
The 27-year-old completed his landmark victory in the K1 500m on the final day of the world championships in Poznan, having finished third in the K1 1000m final.
"After all the years I’ve been racing, this is actually my first world title," Green said.
"We’ve got really close in the past and today I was able to put it on the line and just not hesitate.
"Obviously I came away with a bit to work on and a bit of hunger after yesterday’s (1000m) race.
"I just left everything out on the water."
Australia won four gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the canoe sprint and paracanoe world championships, finishing second overall on the standings as they raised expectations of yet more medals at the Los Angeles Olympics.
Qualification for LA 2028 started this season.
Natalia Drobot and Kailey Harlen also won gold on the final day of the world championships, capturing Australia's first women's K2 world championships crown since 1998.
“It’s pretty surreal, honestly, it’s been a huge year and it’s been a long time overseas for us,” Harlen said after winning the K2 500m final.
"So to come away with a win is just the cherry on top.
"I can’t really describe that feeling. But in the race I felt so free and I think I was just so stoked that we were able to put such a good race together."
Curtis McGrath was relieved to win the men's KL2 200m final, grabbing the 13th world championships title of his career.
"I'm pretty stoked with that, I crossed the line and looked across and it didn’t look like I got the win," McGrath said.
“I didn’t have the greatest start ... it was a tight race so I’m very grateful,” he said.
