A newborn baby has been found with life-threatening injuries outside a home, with a woman in hospital under police guard.
The baby was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being discovered outside a Dandenong North address, on Gladstone Road, about 2.40am on Friday, police confirmed.
A 25-year-old woman from the address was also taken to hospital, where she remains under police guard.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation," a police spokeswoman said.
