Cameron White will coach the Melbourne Stars in the BBL, with his former job as coach of Melbourne Renegades taken by Luke Ronchi.

The BBL franchises confirmed the long-mooted appointments on Friday, following failed attempts to merge the Melbourne BBL entities.

Ronchi will step down as New Zealand's batting coach after a home series against India from October to December this year to join the Renegades.

"The players have been through a difficult period in recent times with a lot of change," the 45-year-old said in a statement.

"So my focus will be on creating an enjoyable environment where our players can perform at their best, play an exciting brand of cricket and challenge for the title."

White leaves the Renegades after two seasons as coach for the Stars, where he was the franchise's inaugural captain.

White will link with Peter Moores, who will shift from the head coaching role to be the Stars’ director of coaching.

"This is a really exciting uplift ... to have multiple high-calibre coaches working in our BBL program," said the Stars' general manager James Rosengarten.

"We are investing heavily into the club and this coaching department is of the highest quality."
