Bondi stabbing memorial as first anniversary looms

Tributes to the victims of the Bondi stabbing attack will be on display in the lead-up to the first anniversary of the shopping centre rampage.

Photographs and messages from floral tributes laid following the tragedy and a candlelight vigil will be set up on two boards in Sydney's east.

They will be visible at Bondi Junction’s Oxford Street Mall and Westfield Bondi Junction from April 10 to 16.

Members of the public have been invited to visit and honour the victims while reflecting on the the community's outpouring of grief following the attack, which horrified the nation.

Ashlee Good, 38, Dawn Singleton, 25, Jade Young, 47, Pikria Darchia, 55, Yixuan Cheng, 27 and 30-year-old security guard Faraz Tahir were killed at Bondi Junction shopping centre on Saturday April 13, 2024. 

At least 10 other people were injured and taken to hospital, including a nine-month old baby who was later released.

The six-minute rampage ended when NSW Police inspector Amy Scott fatally shot attacker Joel Cauchi.

The anniversary and display will happen before a month-long inquest into the attack gets under way.

The inquiry will examine missed opportunities to stop the stabbing, the response of security guards and emergency services as well as the circumstances surrounding it to prevent anything similar happening in the future.

The inquest will run from April 28 to May 30.
