A bus driver has been charged almost a year after a 12-year-old girl died and multiple students were injured in a rollover on a major highway.
The crash occurred on the Hamilton Highway at Stonehaven, in Victoria's south, about 8.20am on August 27, 2025.
It is believed the bus, which was carrying 31 primary and secondary school students, rolled while turning onto the highway from Friend in Hand Road.
Year 7 student Milla Killeen, 12, died at the scene, while a 16-year-old boy from Inverleigh was airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Milla was remembered by her school and sporting group as a beautiful, vibrant member of the community in the wake of the tragedy.
Nine students also sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were rushed to hospital by road ambulances, while a further 14 students were taken to hospital for observation.
The driver, a 76-year-old man from Hamlyn Heights, was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At the time, he was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.
On Friday, detectives charged him with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop at a stop sign and careless driving.
He was bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
