A bushfire that had threatened lives and homes near an airforce base in Perth's northeastern suburbs has been downgraded.

A watch and act warning remains in place for part of Bullsbrook in the City of Swan, about 35km from the West Australian capital.

"The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire is contained," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Wednesday.

Residents were urged to remain alert.

"There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing," authorities said.

The bushfire continues to move southwest and is not controlled.

A watch and act alert includes the Royal Australian Air Force base Pearce in Bullsbrook.
