Coldplay to return to Aust for east coast concerts

"You truly made us feel on top of the world," Coldplay said of their sold-out shows in Perth. (HANDOUT/LIVE NATION)

Coldplay has announced the band will return down under as part of its Music of the Spheres world tour, with dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

The British band played sellout shows at Perth's Optus Stadium on Saturday and Sunday as part of the Asia leg of their tour.

"Thank you Perth - that was off the charts," the band posted on social media after the Perth shows.

"You truly made us feel on top of the world."

Early on Monday, tour company Live Nation announced Coldplay would play the east coast and New Zealand in October and November 2024, the band's first concerts in these cities since 2016.

Following the release of its 2019 album Everyday Life, Coldplay put its concert plans on hold due to concerns about the environmental impact of touring.

The band says it has almost halved carbon emissions for the Music Of The Spheres world tour, with measures including planting a tree for every concertgoer.

The tour has sold more than nine million tickets.

Pre-sale for the new shows starts on November 29 and general tickets go on sale on December 1.
