A fruit grower and a labour hire company have been charged over the death of a 70-year-old worker who fell off a moving trailer.

The labour hire worker sustained fatal head injuries after he fell from a trailer being towed by a tractor between two farms in January 2022.

Victoria's workplace safety watchdog slapped Cutri Fruit with five charges for breaching Occupation Health and Safety policies by failing to ensure non-employees were not exposed to safety risks.

The Woorinen South company near Swan Hill failed to maintain a safe workplace and provide people with necessary information, Worksafe Victoria alleges.

It also alleges the company failed to update engineering and administration decisions to mitigate risk associated with the plant.

Swan Hill labour hire company AH Vision was slapped with two charges for failing to provide and maintain a safe workplace and refusing to provide the watchdog with required information and documents.

The matter will be heard at Swan Hill Magistrates' Court on January 24.
