An alleged workplace argument has turned deadly after a man injured at a construction site succumbed to his injuries.

The 40-year-old hit his head on a road in southern Sydney and suffered serious injuries on March 3.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and took him to hospital.

Six days later, police were called into the hospital to investigate the incident after his wounds were considered inconsistent with an accidental fall.

He died shortly after police visited.

Police on Thursday arrested another man who had been at the worksite in Gymea Bay.

The 37-year-old was charged with manslaughter, with police alleging he assaulted the man during an argument at the worksite.

He is being held in custody and is due to appear before a local court on Friday.
