Divers find body of man in waterfall plunge pool

Police divers have found the body of a 61-year-old man who went missing near waterfalls in an outback national park.

Dominic O’Connell and his wife were visiting Edith Falls in Nitmiluk National Park about 244km southeast of Darwin on Sunday afternoon.

He was last seen between 1pm and 3pm near the lower plunge pool within the park, prompting a search by police and park rangers.

Mr O'Connell's body was found by police divers during a search of the plunge pool on Monday morning.

His family has been notified, and police are providing support to his wife.

"Police extend their sincere condolences to the man’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," police said in a statement.

The death is not believed to be suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
