A junior doctor accused of secretly filming staff in hospital toilets has indicated he will plead guilty
Ryan Cho, 29, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, charged with 910 offences including stalking and producing an intimate image.
It's alleged he concealed a phone in a mesh bag inside staff toilets at the Austin Hospital, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Material found on the phone allegedly shows staff using the toilet or shower facilities, with their genital and anal areas exposed.
Police allege the files were created between 2021 and 2025, and were categorised into different folders referencing each of the three hospitals.
Cho was initially charged and remanded in custody in July on five charges but he successfully applied for bail in the Supreme Court in August.
In the ensuing months police have laid hundreds of additional charges, with the total now at 910.
During a brief hearing on Friday, defence lawyer Kristina Kothrakis indicated Cho would be pleading guilty but the exact charges were still being determined between the parties.
Prosecutors also needed time to notify all of the complainants about the resolution before the plea could occur, Ms Kothrakis said.
Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz said she was very pleased the discussions had taken place as she granted the six-week adjournment.
She told the complainants who were watching on the video link and in the courtroom that the case was expected to be sent to the County Court on the next occasion.
Cho, dressed in a suit, did not speak but stood up and nodded when the magistrate extended his bail.
He will return to Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 9.
