Few MPs make it through their political career without racking up a scar or two - and they found time to celebrate them in song as Missy Higgins dropped into Parliament House.

The award-winning performer was in the nation's capital on Monday for a pop-up event promoting the ARIA Awards and Australian artists.

Higgins performed a half-hour set featuring Hidden Ones from her 2012 album The Ol' Razzle Dazzle, her 2024 song Craters and her 2004 hit Scar, which she joked was Foreign Minister Penny Wong's break-up song.

Arts Minister Tony Burke introduced Higgins, telling the crowd gathered in a parliamentary courtyard her music had helped him deal with the death of his father.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek, Labor backbencher Trish Cook, Liberal MP Tony Pasin and independent senator David Pocock were also spotted listening in during a busy sitting day, alongside journalists and political staffers.

Higgins has been a stalwart of Australia's music industry since she burst onto the scene in 2004 with her debut album, The Sound of White.

She has nine ARIA awards to her name and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2024.
