Earn the respect: Balta back for Tigers as curfew ends

Out to end their troubled AFL season on a high, Richmond will be buoyed by the return of Noah Balta after his court-ordered curfew came to an end.

Tigers coach Adem Yze is confident Balta will answer his call to "earn back the respect" as Richmond look to extend a two-game winning streak when they play league leaders Collingwood.

Since being sentenced on April 22 for assaulting a man in regional NSW last year, defender Balta has been kept to eight games this season.

The court ordered him to be at home from 10pm to 6am every night until July 22.

"He did everything right during that process," Yze said on Thursday.

"Like it's hard enough going out through injury, let alone being fit to play but not able to play.

"He had a smile on his face the other night when that curfew finished, but in saying that, he's still got a responsibility to finish the season off the right way.

"I'm going to give him the opportunity to go and earn back the respect, as he has done."

Yze said the Tigers are walking with a bit more pep in their step after a confidence-boosting 49-point win over a struggling West Coast outfit.

Collingwood remain hot favourites against the third-from-bottom Tigers at the MCG on Sunday, but they have also lost their past two matches.

"You get the nourishment of a win," Yze said.

"I felt like we were in a pretty good spot, even when we were having a tough month against really good opposition.

"The boys are running on top of the ground, a bit of a smile on your face after you've won a couple in a row, but yeah, we've reviewed the game really honestly.

"We'd hope that we're closing that gap every week by just getting better, irrelevant of whether they're winning or losing."

Yze is backing Maurice Rioli Jr to go up another gear against the Pies after his run-down tackle on Brady Hough helped set the tone early against West Coast.

"He's had a real spike in his performance," the coach said.

"We understand his pressure is enormous, and it's infectious and it's exactly what we want.

"He's starting to round out his game and hopefully that does take him further in his career."
