A former partner of Greens senator Jordon Steele-John has faced court on stalking and extortion charges.

The 40-year-old woman faced Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday and was granted bail with strict conditions.

She is accused of stalking the senator and extortion in Perth between September 29 and October 30 in 2025.

Police prosecutor Ben Giff declined to detail the woman's alleged offending, but said it was related to the "use of an electronic device and continuing to make contact".

During the hearing, her lawyer, Anna Trewarn, successfully applied for a suppression order to prevent the publication of the woman's identity.

Magistrate Clare Stanyer granted an interim suppression order.

The senator's former partner is charged with one count of aggravated stalking with intent to intimidate the senator and one count of demanding property by written threats.

She was not required to enter a plea, and the matter was adjourned to return to the same court on February 25.

Her bail conditions included a $5000 personal undertaking, surrendering her passport, not approaching international departure points and not attempting to contact or approach the senator.

Senator Steele-John is on leave from the Greens after seven party members penned a letter to leader David Shoebridge on October 15.

They urged him to take action over allegations about the WA senator's behaviour in the presence of women spanning nearly a decade.

Senator Steele-John vehemently denies any wrongdoing and an independent investigation is being carried out by the WA Greens.

In a lengthy letter posted to his social media three days later, Senator Steele-John accused Senator Shoebridge of effectively forcing him to take leave and said he was the victim of a years-long smear campaign from within the party.

He later clarified he was on leave and did not appear at recent Senate estimates hearings in Canberra, where he is usually prominent as the Greens' disability spokesman.
