A car crash in central western NSW in which a woman was killed and a man left critically injured is being investigated as a domestic-violence related incident.

The 36-year-old woman died at Molong on Friday afternoon after her sedan crashed with a ute driven by a 35-year-old man.

Police said two girls in the car aged eight and and 13 were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The man was freed from the ute by Fire and Rescue NSW responders and taken in a critical condition to hospital, where he remains.

NSW Police said the man and woman knew each other, and the crash is being treated as a domestic violence-related incident.

A fundraising website has been set up for the woman's children in the aftermath of the crash.
