Hawthorn great Jarryd Roughead has joined AFL rivals Adelaide as the club's list manager.

Roughead, a four-time premiership player at the Hawks, has held football operations roles at St Kilda and, most recently, as Hawthorn's player acquisition manager.

He will take over as Adelaide's list manager from Justin Reid, who has departed for a role at the AFL.

“This is a significant appointment ... not only due to the importance of the role but for the calibre of candidate we have found in Jarryd,” Adelaide's football operations boss Adam Kelly said on Thursday.

"He is widely respected across the football industry, understands the complexities of the current list management landscape, and has well-established relationships with key stakeholders.

"Beyond the technical capability he clearly demonstrated during the recruitment process, Jarryd showed himself to be a person of great character and integrity, who communicates honestly and authentically.

"And he possesses a clear vision of what it takes to win."

Roughead will start his new role in coming weeks and will be based in Adelaide's Melbourne office.
