A man has died in hospital days after he was arrested over a fight in Melbourne's northwest.
Police were called to Timins Street at Sunbury about 11.30pm on Saturday over reports the 58-year-old local was fighting with another man.
He was arrested and taken to Broadmeadows Police Station, before he was transferred to hospital as he became unresponsive, Victoria Police said.
The man died in hospital on Tuesday.
Police on Wednesday said homicide squad detectives were called in to investigate the death.
Professional standard command officers would oversee the investigation given the man was in police custody.
A 27-year-old Sunbury man was arrested shortly after the fight and interviewed. However, he was released pending further inquiries.
He had minor facial injuries, police said.
The men fighting were known to each other.
Officers urged anyone with information to come forward.
