Australia's Winter Olympic hero Cooper Woods says the magnitude of his gold medal has finally hit home - literally.
Woods and silver medallist Danielle Scott returned to Australia on Thursday to a raucous reception at Sydney International Airport.
"To have everyone here, I’m so stoked, it’s such an honour - it's pretty wild," Woods said.
"I just didn’t expect it to be this big. I didn’t understand the gratitude of winning a gold medal."
Woods became Australia's seventh Winter Olympic gold medallist at the Milan-Cortina Games with an unexpected triumph in the men's moguls.
The 25-year-old's victory was followed by gold medals to compatriots Josie Baff in the women's snowboard cross and Jakara Anthony in the women's dual moguls.
Scott snared silver in the women's aerials, with countryman Scotty James also winning snowboard silver in the men's halfpipe.
Matt Graham collected bronze in the men's dual moguls to cap Australia's most successful Winter Games - three gold, two silver and a bronze.
