Luckless Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Ash Moloney has pulled out after three disciplines of the Olympic decathlon due to an adductor injury.

Moloney was sitting back in 19th place after the opening three rounds on Friday - the 100m, long jump and shot put.

In the three years since he claimed Olympic bronze in Tokyo in dramatic style, the 24-year-old has battled a variety of injuries.

He failed to complete five successive decathlons post-Tokyo, including at the 2022 and 2023 world championships.

Moloney's luck looked to have turned earlier this year, only for the adductor injury to recur at the worst possible time on Friday.

His departure left Daniel Golubovic as the only Australian competitor in the Paris Olympics decathlon.
