Two prisoners have been taken to hospital following an incident, now under investigation, at Victoria's highest security jail.

Emergency services were called to the maximum security Barwon Prison, located at Lara, near the regional city of Geelong, at 9.30am on Monday.

Ambulance Victoria said one man was taken to hospital with upper body injuries in a stable condition.

Corrections Victoria later said two prisoners were taken to hospital for assessment.

"No other prisoners or staff were injured," a spokesperson told AAP.

“Victoria Police has been notified and the incident will be investigated.”
