Maya Joint has extended her impressive run in Asia, beating Spain's Cristina Bucsa in the round of 16 at the Pac Pacific Open in Tokyo.

A day after ousting sixth seed Sorana Cirstea, the Australian triumphed 6-1 2-6 6-4 on Wednesday, setting up a quarter-final clash with Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova.

Currently ranked No.94, Joint continued her recent resurgence, after she made the final at last month's Korea Open in Seoul before compatriot Kim Birrell claimed her first WTA title with a 6-4 6-2 win in the decider.

Rakhimova advanced with a marathon 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7-5) win over Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Joint's countrywoman Talia Gibson was unable to join her in the quarter-finals, despite a bright start against rising star Alexandra Eala, the eighth seed.

Playing a night match, Eala rallied to win 4-6 6-2 6-0.
