Lizzo has brought her flute-playing fabulousness to Melbourne for the second night of her Australian tour, with a show all about love.
Dressed in a gold and black catsuit, the superstar performer opened with Cuz I Love You at Rod Laver Arena on Monday night, with the message "THIS IS A SHOW ABOUT LOVE" lit up in massive neon lights.
The Special Tour featured all of Lizzo's hits, including 2 Be Loved, Truth Hurts, Water Me and, for the encore, About Damn Time.
Lizzo's banter was so warm, charismatic and intimate that it was easy to forget she was playing an entire stadium.
Her all-singing, all-dancing classically trained flute talents even extended to pronouncing "Melbourne" how the locals say it, and "no" with an authentic broad Australian accent - compare that to some of the international acts who struggle to remember what city they're playing in.
“Ass like a kangaroo, bitch” she joked at one point, giving a few hops, Lizzo-style.
But as she pointed out, she wasn't doing it alone, introducing her backing dancers the Big Grrrls and her back-up band.
At one point the spotlight failed for about 10 minutes, so Lizzo did a second, properly lit rendition of Truth Hurts for those who wanted to film her playing the flute.
A section of the night was dedicated to the LGBTIQA+ community, with Everybody's Gay and a cover of I'm Every Woman.
The crowd work extended to half an hour at one point, with the many young fans made to feel, well, special.
Lizzo hugged one little girl in a fuzzy coat and sparkles and signed a placard from the crowd that read "I want to be you when I grow up - I'm 41 LOL".
She even did a kids' game, Chatterbox, with a grown-up fan in the front row, who was so emotional his voice broke as he read out numbers for the singer to choose.
For two fans holding a sign saying they wanted to touch Lizzo's toes, the singer went the extra mile and got down on her belly to instead give them a hug.
It was clearly a night of joy and energy, not only for the crowd but also for Lizzo herself, and there was a very Melbourne reason for that.
"Y'all have to excuse me, I've had some coffee, so I'm hyper as s**t right now," she said.
There is a second show in Melbourne on Tuesday, before The Special Tour moves to Sydney at Qudos Bank Arena, and a headline show at Splendour In The Grass.
