A man will remain in custody after being charged with the murder of his partner, who he allegedly stabbed twice before her death.

Jeremaia Tuwai did not apply for bail when he appeared in court on Tuesday, a day after his critically-injured partner was found at a unit in Kingswood, in western Sydney.

The 21-year-old was arrested in nearby Penrith on Monday evening following the death of the young woman earlier that afternoon.

Paramedics and police arrived at the unit complex after another person at the property called triple-zero.

The woman, also 21, was treated by first responders but died at the scene.

Officers had not previously been called to the Kingswood address and there were no court orders in place to protect the woman, police said.
