A man has been arrested for allegedly creating and plastering a website with Nazi symbols and other anti-Semitic content.

The 60-year-old faced a bail hearing on Tuesday, charged under provisions outlawing hate symbols and extremist material, after earlier being arrested at a property in the Sydney suburb of Jannali.

After searching electronic devices seized during his arrest, police charged the man with one count of public display of prohibited hate symbols, and one count of publishing violent extremist material using a carriage service.

Both offences carry a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.

Investigators also served the man with a weapons prohibition order and a firearms prohibition order.

He was refused bail and is due to face Downing Centre Local Court on August 26.

Police had launched an investigation in July over reports of a website allegedly displaying anti-Semitic content, including articles, Nazi symbols and a video containing extremist violence.

Federal laws came into force in 2024 making it a criminal offence to publicly display a prohibited Nazi symbol such as a swastika or perform a Nazi salute.
