A Tasmanian man has been charged with killing an Australian fur seal, along with firearms and burglary offences.

The 23-year-old Campania man was arrested in June after police discovered a cache of illegal weapons and stolen property at a private residence.

Police allege the man also shot and killed a protected Australian fur seal near Richmond.

"Police executed a search warrant at a private residence early last month and located various illegal firearms and stolen property," Tasmania Police said in a statement.

The man faced Hobart Magistrates Court and has been bailed by the court to appear again on August 2.

Police are appealing for more information to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
