A 68-year-old man will front court on more than a dozen charges over alleged child sexual abuse dating back almost three decades.

Sexual crimes squad detectives on Wednesday night charged the man from Keysborough in Melbourne's southeast with raping a child under the age of 16 and committing an indecent act with a child under the age of 16.

A total of 13 charges relate to three alleged victims, with the assaults believed to have happened between 1996 and 2004, Victoria Police said.

The man allegedly met his victims at a Keysborough temple.

The 68-year-old was granted bail and is due to front Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Victoria Police urged anyone with information about the alleged incidents, or who has been a victim of child sexual abuse, to come forward.
