Man dies after unit blaze as police investigate cause

A 45-year-old man who suffered critical injuries after a Sydney unit went up in flames has died in hospital.

Fire Investigation and Research unit officers and police are investigating the cause of the fire that consumed the top-floor property on Angas Street, in Sydney's Meadowbank.

Emergency services were called to the unit block about 3.30pm on Monday, with Fire and Rescue NSW able to extinguish the blaze a short time later.

Fire Investigation and Research unit officers are investigating the cause of the apartment fire.

The 45-year-old man was located inside the unit and treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for significant injuries.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition and later died.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the fire. However, the cause is not yet known.
