A man accused of murdering a woman whose body was found after a house fire in Hobart has faced court.

Tasmania Police on Monday confirmed the person found dead at the home in Glenorchy on Friday morning was 39-year-old resident Alison Robinson.

David George Evans, 40, was charged on Sunday with murder, arson, motor vehicle stealing and unlawfully setting fire to property.

Evans, who is from the Hobart suburb of New Town, briefly appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.

He did not enter a plea to the charges, did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to next appear on February 1.

Emergency services were called to the house shortly before 7am on Friday to reports of a fire.

Police have described the investigation as ongoing and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
