A man accused of murder over another's death in a Sydney CBD hotel hallway has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Connor Godfrey, 22, was accused of murdering 43-year-old Giuseppe Pagano, but the charge was dropped and his guilty plea to manslaughter accepted by prosecutors in the Supreme Court on Friday.

Mr Pagano died in the early hours of Easter Sunday 2021 in a serviced apartment building at Haymarket in the Sydney CBD following an altercation caught on CCTV.

The pair met hours earlier.

Godfrey told police he was acting in self-defence when they arrived minutes after Mr Pagano's death.

He earlier faced a murder trial before the jury was discharged in April.

Godfrey returns to court on Thursday to fix a date for sentencing.
