A man has been shot dead in public as a car was found on fire just a few hundred metres away.

Emergency services were called to Riverstone in Sydney’s north-west at 6pm on Wednesday following reports of a shooting.

A man was found with gunshot wounds and died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

He is yet to be identified.

As emergency services responded to the incident, they were called to a car fire around the block at 6.15pm.

The vehicle was destroyed.

It is unclear whether the two events are linked but a second crime scene has been established and inquiries are ongoing.

The shooting came after 60-year-old Artemios Mintzas was peppered with 50 bullets at an inner-west Sydney shopping strip on Sunday night.

One man was shot in the neck but is expected to survive and there were no fatalities.
