Penrith will turn their focus to retaining fullback Dylan Edwards and five-eighth Jarome Luai after forward Liam Martin was rewarded with a three-year contract extension.

Martin agreed to fresh terms with the NRL reigning premiers on Thursday after impressive club form which earned him NSW State of Origin and Kangaroos selection.

The 25-year-old was already contracted for 2024, with the new deal set to keep him in Penrith colours until the end of 2027.

“Marto is a quality player. He’s come through this system and he loves the Panthers - you can see that by the way he plays,” said coach Ivan Cleary.

“He’s getting better each and every year. I think his work in the representative arenas have been really strong. He’s a really important player for us and it’s great to see him re-sign with the club.”

Luai and Edwards are yet to agree to terms with Penrith, although reports have surfaced that the latter is close to agreeing to new terms with the club.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have announced a new deal for representative back-rower Tyson Frizell.

The initial contract extension keeps Frizell, who was linked with a move to England earlier this year, at the Knights for 2024.

The 31-year-old Frizell has an option in his favour for a further year in 2025 and could extend that in 2026 if both parties mutually agree to continue his tenure at the club.

“His football this year has been as good as it has ever been," said Knights football manager Peter Parr.

“We look forward to him continuing to play well and provide leadership to help further develop our playing group, especially the young players coming through.”
