Homicide squad detectives are investigating the suspected hit-run death of a teenage boy in Melbourne's northwest.

The 16-year-old Keilor Downs boy was among a group of teens crossing Chichester Drive in Taylors Lakes when they were struck by a vehicle about 6.55pm on Monday.

The boy was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Another two boys - aged 16 and 15 - were also struck and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle left the scene before emergency services arrived.

Detectives from the homicide squad and major collision investigation unit are working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.

Any witnesses or people with CCTV or dashcam footage should contact investigators.
