More asbestos has been found near an inner Sydney park, with some pedestrian and bike paths closed to the public.

A child first brought home the potentially hazardous material from the Rozelle Parklands earlier this week, prompting authorities to start testing the site's recycled mulch.

More than 85 samples from the parklands and surrounding Rozelle Interchange Project sites have been analysed, with 13 positive results.

It includes six positive samples returned late on Friday from the garden beds along the junction of Anzac Bridge, Victoria Road and City West Link.

The adjacent pedestrian and bike paths were closed to the public on Saturday as a result.

The garden beds had been part of the same landscaping work done at the Rozelle Parklands at the end of last year, a Transport for NSW statement said.

Targeted testing of the entire parklands was now finished but a number of samples from other sites outside the main park will be analysed in coming days.

"We thank the community for their patience and understanding while we work through the next steps," a department spokesperson said.
