Two men in custody over fatal assault in shop car park

Two men are in custody after a fatal assault in a Gold Coast shopping centre car park.

Police were called to a car park in the suburb of Hope Island on Monday afternoon following reports a man had been seriously assaulted.

Paramedics treated the man for life-threatening injuries, including a chest wound, but he died at the scene.

Police declared a crime scene and launched a homicide investigation.

They located and arrested a 23-year-old Surfers Paradise man nearby about 4.45pm.

A 23-year-old Redbank Plains man was arrested nearby about 5.30pm.

Police said both men were known to the victim and there was no threat to the public.

Investigations are continuing.
