Two police officers will not be charged over the fatal shooting of a man during a violent confrontation, with investigators ruling the pair acted in self defence.
Sean Ferris was shot dead at Crystal Brook in South Australia on May 3.
Sergeants Ian Todd and Jordan Allely had gone to the property to follow up on a minor incident at the local supermarket the day before, which was believed to have involved a complaint about the dead man's dog.
In what followed, both men suffered stab wounds and were taken to hospital, while Mr Ferris was shot and killed.
The incident triggered a major crime investigation, which released preliminary findings to Police Commissioner Grant Stevens on Thursday.
The commissioner was told the shooting death of Mr Ferris was deemed to be self-defence.
"Therefore, there will be no criminal charges laid for the two South Australia police officers involved," the force said in a statement.
"The full investigation into the incident is continuing as a mandated coronial inquest.
"As the matter is subject to an inquest no further comments will be made."
