An off-duty NSW Police officer allegedly reached speeds of 200km/h during an illegal street race - more than 120km/h over the limit.

Police say they clocked the 22-year-old man driving at more than twice the speed limit in an 80km/h zone on Camden Valley Way in Sydney's southwest on Monday night.

Roadside drug and alcohol tests both returned a negative result.

The officer's licence was suspended and he was charged with organising, promoting or taking part in a race, driving in a dangerous manner and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

The constable, who is attached to a South West Metropolitan Region command, will have his employment status reviewed, police said in a statement.

He will appear before Picton Local Court on July 23.
