Police taser woman after alleged random stabbing of man

A woman has been tasered and arrested after a man was allegedly randomly stabbed outside a cinema in a busy inner-city suburb.

Emergency services were called to the Dendy Newtown cinema on King St in Sydney's inner-west about 11.40am on Monday following reports of an assault.

Police said a 48-year-old man had allegedly been stabbed in the hand by an unknown woman.

Officers later located a 27-year-old woman armed with a knife.

They demanded she drop the knife but when she failed to heed their calls, she was tasered and arrested, NSW Police said.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The woman has been taken to a local police station for further inquiries.

A crime scene has been established and King St, a bustling road full of restaurants and cafes, is closed in both directions.

Dendy Cinemas in Newtown has temporarily closed but expects to reopen later on Monday, a social media post said.
