Australia's Paris Olympic champions will be celebrated with their own postal stamps, sealing their place in the nation's sporting history.

The Olympic-themed Australia Post stamps will be available online for pre-orders within 48 hours of a win and available at participating post offices within a week.

Designs will feature official podium photos taken as the athletes receive their gold medals.

Creating a stamp to recognise the nation's gold medallists was a way to show support for their incredible talents, Australia Post executive director Josh Bannister said.

"Recognising athletes on a stamp that is accessible to their families and all Australians is a special tribute," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

It was a rare honour for athletes to be commemorated with their own stamps, but all 460 selected to represent their country should be considered winners, Australian Olympic Committee chief executive Matt Carroll said.

"I know each athlete will be celebrated whether they achieve a medal, a personal best, a courageous performance or display an act of great sportsmanship," he said.

The Royal Australian Mint has also released a set of limited-edition coloured $2 coins for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic teams.

The Paris Games will run for just over two weeks from July 26.
