Socceroos star Jordan Bos, one of the Australian success stories at the World Cup, has undergone surgery on his knee and is set to miss the first three months of the Dutch domestic season with Feyenoord.
The Eredivisie club reported on Saturday that the 23-year-old, who was recorded as the World Cup's quickest player after his first match against Turkey and subsequently impressed until Australia were eliminated in the last-32, had a procedure on Saturday.
"Jordan Bos suffered a knee injury in the last World Cup match with his national team. Bos underwent surgery this morning, and the procedure went well. The expectation is that he will be unavailable for multiple months," said a post on X from Feyenoord.
Though there was no exact time frame in the post, it's understood the club have ruled out the full-back for at least the first three months of the season.
Meanwhile, Bos himself took to Instagram to post, alongside a picture of him in his hospital bed, with the vow: "We'll be back stronger."
Bos's tournament came to an unfortunate clattering end eight days ago in the round-of-32 loss to Egypt when he was the subject of a crude first-half challenge in Dallas from Rami Rabia and ended up being forced out of the game.
The โ23-year-old did start all Australia's matches โin the Cup, but the injury was particularly unfortunate after Bos's previous run of serious โhamstring โinjuries, which didn't stop him earning a move to the Rotterdam giants last season where he proved a real success, after his move from Belgian club Westerlo.
He proved himself one of the most productive wing-backs in the Netherlands, scoring four and also delivering nine assists in Robin van Persie's side as they finished runners-up. Van Persie has subsequently been replaced by former boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Bos's injury setback will surely for the moment have cooled the international interest in the former Melbourne City player, with Premier League and Bundesliga clubs having shown some interest, particularly after his standout performance against Paraguay that helped Australia into the knockout stages.
