Awer Mabil will hope to put himself back in the frame for Socceroos selection after securing a move to Swiss outfit Grasshopper Club Zurich.

Mabil on Tuesday signed a two-year contract with an option for a third after struggling to nail down regular gametime over the past two years.

The 32-cap international signed with La Liga outfit Cadiz last season from Danish side Midtjylland but failed to force his way into the starting XI and was loaned to Czech side Sparta Prague in January.

Grasshopper will be the winger's fifth club in the space of two years after Midtjylland also sent him on loan to Turkey.

“I am very excited to join GC Zurich,” Mabil said in a statement.

“I can’t wait to play with the team and hopefully celebrate victories with our fans.”

The 27-year-old, who was crowned Young Australian of the Year in January, was part of the Socceroos’ World Cup squad in Qatar last year but was not called up in the June window when Graham Arnold’s side were defeated by Argentina in a friendly.

Arnold has consistently reiterated the need for players to be getting regular match minutes if they want to earn a place in the national side.

The Socceroos face Mexico in the September window in a one-off friendly in Dallas.
