Star Entertainment Group chief executive Robbie Cooke will depart the company as it waits for the outcome of an inquiry into whether it should keep its Sydney casino licence.

Star’s chief financial officer Christina Katsibouba will also leave, as confirmed in a company notice to the Australian Stock Exchange on Friday night.

It said Mr Cooke and the board believed a change in leadership was in the best interests of the company.

"In particular having formed the view that the continuation of Cooke’s leadership of the group was not going to be conducive to the NSW Independent Casino Commission determining to find The Star capable of becoming suitable to hold a licence in NSW,” the group told the ASX.

Star chairman David Foster will become executive chairman.

If the casino commission finds Star is unsuitable to be a casino operator its licence could be permanently revoked.
