Former Supercars fan favourite Simona De Silvestro will return to Australia for this year's Bathurst 1000.

De Silvestro, who was the first female full-time Supercars driver during her stint between 2017 and 2019, will once again race at Mount Panorama after signing as a wildcard entry for Shell V-Power.

The Swiss driver will partner with Kai Allen, a teenager who is racing in the Dunlop Super 2 Series this season.

“I am thrilled to race back at the iconic track in Bathurst and want to thank DJR and Shell V-Power for this amazing opportunity," De Silvestro, 34, said.

"Four years has been too long but who would have thought in 2019 that I would not be able to travel to Australia for such a long time.

"I am looking forward to teaming up with Kai and I am sure we will make a great team."

Allen only turned 18 in June but sits second in the Dunlop series standings behind Zak Best, who last year became the first wildcard to secure a pole in Supercars.

"I’m really looking forward to working with such a knowledgeable and well-respected team, who have seen so much success over the years," Allen said.

"Co-driving with Simona will no doubt be a highlight of the year and I can’t wait to learn from her, as she is such an experienced driver.”
