Swans could lose emerging ruck star to AFLW rivals

Sydney coach Scott Gowans says uncertainty surrounds emerging star Ally Morphett's future at the AFLW club.

Morphett is considering a lucrative offer from the Western Bulldogs with other rivals including Essendon and Collingwood also making pitches.

The talented 20-year-old ruck was sidelined through a broken wrist as Sydney's season ended with a 12.10 (82) to 2.3 (15) semi-final thrashing by Adelaide on Saturday night.

Gowans, after poaching big names from rival clubs including Chloe Molloy from Collingwood in the last off-season, is pragmatic about the prospect  of losing Morphett.

"We don't really comment on where we're at with it," Gowans said.

"I don't know where it'll end up.

"And the shoe is on the other foot for me now because obviously we got players from other teams (last off-season).

"So I'm the last person that's going to whinge about players seeking other opportunities.

"We will back our program and what happens over the next few weeks, happens."

The 188cm-tall Morphett, until injured, was a key cog in Sydney's rebound  from winless last season to reaching the playoffs.

And while the finals campaign ended with a drubbing from triple premiers Adelaide, Gowans - who missed some of the pre-season while battling prostate cancer - said the Swans should be proud of their feats.

"I haven't really stopped since I came back from the illness and pushed through," he said.

"I haven't reflected at all, it has all been about looking forward.

"But this time of year now, we will get over this loss and do our exits (interviews) and medicals and what we've got to do.

"But I will reflect and it will be a pretty special year.

"I don't know if it's happened before (from winless to finals) but it's a great comeback."
