A teenager has been charged with murdering a father during a late-night dog walk in Geelong's CBD.

Paul Grapsas, 40, sustained head injuries and was found dead on Friday morning next to his car after leaving his Western Beach Road home late on Thursday evening.

His wife made the grim discovery after waking about 4am to find their dog had returned from the walk but he had not.

An 18-year-old man from Belmont was arrested in Ocean Grove on Tuesday.

He was charged with murder following a police interview on Wednesday and was set to face the Geelong Magistrates Court later in the day.

Investigators have asked anyone who lives in the area or was driving through at the time to contact police if they have any CCTV or dashcam footage.

The father of two was expecting to welcome his third child and earlier in the week, his grieving family said he would be dearly and desperately missed.
