Third man in custody after remains found in mining town

Three men have been charged after the discovery of Raymond Smith's body at Greenbushes, WA. (HANDOUT/WESTERN AUSTRALIA POLICE)

The discovery of a man's body on the outskirts of a tiny mining town in Western Australia has led to the arrest of a third man.

A 30-year-old was taken into custody by homicide detectives on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.

The search for the man started on Tuesday after the discovery of Raymond Smith's remains on Friday in Greenbushes, 245km south of Perth.

The 68-year-old had disappeared in suspicious circumstances on December 7 and two men, aged 35 and 41, have been charged with his murder.

Greenbushes' mining operations produce tantalite, lithium, tin and kaolin.

The town has a population of about 360.
