Richmond vice-captain Liam Baker has been slapped with a one-match AFL suspension for his flying hit on Sydney's Lewis Melican.

Baker, running with the flight of the ball, leaped into the air and turned his body in a heavy bump on Melican, who was attempting a mark.

Swans players immediately remonstrated with Baker over the incident, which was classified as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

Playing in Baker's favour was the fact Melican wasn't seriously injured by the hit, with the defender able to take his free kick.

Unless Baker successfully overturns the ban at the AFL Tribunal, he will miss Sunday's clash with St Kilda at Norwood Oval.

The Tigers will already be without Tom Lynch (hamstring) and Noah Balta (knee) for that match.

West Coast forward Jamie Cripps can escape with a $2500 fine with an early guilty plea for his strike on Western Bulldogs forward Cody Weightman.

Sydney's Justin McInerney can accept a $1250 fine for tripping Richmond's Maurice Rioli.

On Sunday, St Kilda youngster Marcus Windhager was offered a one-game suspension for his high bump on Essendon's Sam Durham.
