Almost a year after calling Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley's position untenable, Warren Tredrea has been elected to the AFL club's board.
The Power great, who captained the club to its only AFL premiership in 2004, has defeated another former player Bruce Abernethy for the vacant spot on the board.
The decorated ex-players were running against each other for the member-elected board position.
Tredrea won by 199 votes, with 10,405 votes cast.
Last April after Port opened the 2023 season with a win and then consecutive losses, Tredrea expressed belief Hinkley would not be offered a contract to continue as coach.
"I can’t see it. If he does, I’ll be the first to say well done. But right now, it looks untenable," he told The Big Deal podcast.
Hinkley then oversaw a club-record 13-game winning streak from round four and was given a two-year extension.
Tredrea, prominent in the Adelaide media, has also locked horns with Port's president David Koch.
But Koch on Friday welcomed the election result.
“Warren grew up at Port Adelaide, he played in an SANFL premiership as a teenager before becoming one of our greatest AFL players,” Koch said.
"His career spanned 14 seasons and 255 games and of course he captained the club to our inaugural AFL premiership in 2004.
"It will be terrific to have his knowledge and experience around the board table."
