Videos of Teslas charging from towed diesel generators are AI fakes

What was claimed

A video shows a Tesla charging from a diesel generator while driving.

Our verdict

False. The video is AI-generated.

AAP FACTCHECK - Videos that appear to show Tesla electric cars charging from towed diesel generators on social media are AI-generated.

The videos either feature AI watermarks or contain visual clues indicating they're artificially-generated.

A Facebook post features a video of a Tesla towing a smoke-belching diesel generator while charging from it.

"Tesla Owner Charges on the Highway Using a Diesel Generator — Seriously?!" the caption reads.

However, the clip features the watermark of OpenAI's popular video-generation tool, Sora, indicating it's not real.

The Telsa's registration plate also shifts to different sections on its rear during the video.

Several posts feature similar videos bearing the Sora watermark.

Other videos being shared in Australia do not feature obvious watermarks.

However, one such video appears to show the trailer hovering, unattached to the Tesla in front of it.

It also shows the charging port in the wrong place.
