A woman has died after being hit by a car which is believed to have then ploughed into a cafe at a shopping centre.
Emergency services were called to Westfield Knox in the east Melbourne suburb of Wantirna South about 12.45pm on Monday following reports of a crash.
Police believe a female pedestrian was struck by a car before it crashed into a cafe at the Westfield Knox shopping centre.
The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
A diner seated outside the cafe was assessed by paramedics at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old woman from Wantirna, and her female passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two people were transported to Maroondah Hospital in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
Police do not believe the crash was intentional.
Martini and Co, which is located at the shopping centre, posted on social media that it was closed until further notice following the incident.
“Please stay safe and we will keep you updated when we can reopen,” it said.
A crime scene has been established and major collision detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
